VIDEO: LOL Korea (and Starcraft) Posted: 31 Mar 2011 08:43 PM PDT For those who still haven’t heard, South Koreans love Starcraft something fierce. Instead of passing along statistics that sound more like wise tales, like how many have died from heart attacks due to insanely extended game playing sessions (apparently, the blood flow in one's body slows down from inactivity and starts to congeal, so if you stand up real quick like, instant heart attack), or simply how many in the nation actually partakes in Starcraft (I’ve heard figures as high as 40% of the population, but again, haven’t been unable to find any actual numbers, though everyone agrees that it’s hella popular), here instead is a simple video showing a girl attending a tournament. Word to the wise; just skip ahead to the 1:54 mark unless you want to hear her go on and on about pretty much nothing… But yeah, it’s a bonafide national obsession. As demonstrated above, folks are perfectly content with watching the game in action. Matches air on primetime television and nab huge ratings. It’s funny because there have been numerous attempts at televising game playing on American airwaves, but with little success. Remember how G4 used to be the video game network? Exactly. I think the problem is, our announcers were never this entertaining… You know something is big when you have comedy routines based upon it… Though ultimately, Starcraft is serious business. One key to success is having a high APM, which stands for Actions Per Minute… Okay, confession time: I came across the first clip my total accident, while checking out the user’s latest uploads. Whom I only know about cuz she was once part of this goofy movement back in the early days of YouTube in which her and others all got together to support some other YouTube “vloggers” (lol) who were having some kind of legal issues back home in Australia. Apparently they lost custody of their child, so all their YouTube pals got together to sing a stupid song. For what purpose, I still have no idea… I believe in the end, it was discovered that the reason why the couple lost custody of their kids was because it was discovered that the father was a child molester. And thus the party ended. Oh internet. |

GoDaddy’s CEO Bob Parsons kills elephants like you wear pants Posted: 31 Mar 2011 12:53 PM PDT GoDaddy CEO Bob Parsons is getting beaten up around the Internet due to a fun fact that isn’t actually a whole lot of fun: Parsons kills elephants. And he filmed it for GoDaddy, joyously. This’ll end well. I imagine this isn't Bob Parsons holding a copy of the 'Problem Elephant Times' The local Phoenix Fox affiliate got a hold of Parsons for a comment and he admitted no regret, saying, “I kind of figured that this might happen. So be it, I’m not ashamed of what I did.” He went on to say: “All these people that are complaining that this shouldn’t happen, that these people who are starving to death otherwise shouldn’t eat these elephants, you probably see them driving through at McDonald’s or cutting a steak. These people [Zimbabwe villagers] don’t have that option.” Gawker says Parsons is a known attention whore, even refusing to bring GoDaddy to an IPO in 2006 because IPOs require a “quiet period” in which Parsons would have been unable to make any media appearances or, presumably, videos of himself having a driveby at Babar’s house. In a follow-up blog post, Parsons defended himself again, claiming that these are “problem” elephants and that the carcasses go to feed the villagers (also captured in the video linked above). Logistically, I understand the hunter mindset of killing to regulate animal populations (even though that strays a bit too close to “playing God” for my tastes). And it’s certainly not a bad thing for hungry African villagers to be able to eat. But the reason for all the hatred is simple to me beyond just the disgust of someone shooting elephants: It’s an obscenely rich man pretending to be helping society when, in reality, he just wants to blast Dumbo in the face with a shotgun. So if you’re wealthy enough to do that and it brings you joy, then just say that. Tell us all, “I literally cannot get it up unless the blood of an innocent beast has been spilled. I like to shove elephant tusks in my anus to massage my prostate. It’s who I am. I’m rich. Deal with it.” At least then we can stop pretending this is an ethical/liberal quandary instead of just another rich dude doing things just because he can. |
Two HS baseball players sacrifice chickens to try and boost their play Posted: 31 Mar 2011 12:39 PM PDT Two baseball players from Western High School in Fort Worth Texas were dismissed from the team for sacrificing chickens in an attempt to improve their play. From what we understand, neither player is related to Pedro Cerrano from Major League. Fort Worth Independent School District spokesman Clint Bond said the incident happened during Spring Break. Bond did not know how many chickens allegedly were killed. He declined to say how the two students were punished. Baseball coach Bobby McIntire said he has not had a chance to talk to the students about why they did it. Judging from the team’s abysmal record, 7-15, it’s no surprise that somebody pulled a stunt like this. And it’s only a matter of time before “team PETA” begins to protest these kids high school games. Personally, this whole story’s making me hungry. I’m thinking about getting a bucket of KFC for dinner. Teens Cut From Team After Chicken Sacrifice [NBCDFW] |
Mahesh Bhupathy and Lara Dutta has turned into Producer Posted: 31 Mar 2011 12:04 AM PDT The feature in Chalo Dilli as well, along with Lara Dutta. The film has reportedly drawn an impressive line of actors from theatre. A comedy caper, the film is a journey of the two protagonists accentuating the different kinds of people in India and their eccentricities in a lighter vein.
According to reports, Vinay had to put on 12 kilos to look the part he’s playing in the film. Wonder how he plans to get rid of them! The film will release on April 29.
