Essentials: Spring 2011 – Sunglasses Posted: 01 Apr 2011 01:30 PM PDT Alright, we all need proper protection from the sun now that its supposed to be getting warmer and sunnier (seriously, though, mother nature is killing me right now). Check out some of my favorite, classic styles that will protect your eyes and keep you looking great. GANT by Michael Bastian Sunglasses When it comes to sunglasses, everyone is different. The shape of your face and you skin tone affect which models work for you. I would recommend never buying a pair of sunglasses before you try them on. It may look great on the website, but it could be a totally different picture once you receive them. The proportions could be way off and you would have a “Big man, little jacket” dilemma happening on your face. Not a good look. Also, unless you’re a Jersey Shore alternate, don’t go for those blinged out, bedazzled, massive frames. Stay classic and they’ll transcend fashion and trends and you’ll have them for as long as you can avoid breaking them. I would also avoid grabbing bold colors (reds, blues, patterns, etc.) as they won’t mesh as well with your day to day attire as black, silver/gold metal, or tortoise shell. I’m all for simplicity in your accessories, don’t over do it. I’ve chosen variations on classic styles (the aviator, wayfarer, clubmaster, etc. ) and ones that cost $200 or less. I know it can be difficult dropping that much dough on what seems like a frivolous accessory. However, you’re paying for the quality of lenses (especially if they’re polarized) and the general production quality of the frame. Are you paying a little for the brand name? Sure. But if you think that $15 pair of sunglasses from Target is the same as a $130 pair from Ray-ban, I would heartily disagree with you. Check out my picks for this summer below! Ray-Ban Original Wayfarer, Black – $145 (This is one of the most classic frames, you can’t go wrong) Ray-Ban Clubmasters, Tortoise Shell – $145 (Note: These are very narrow lenses, so try them on first if you’re interested) Randolph Engineering Sportsman – $139 (polarized lenses are optional, +$40) Persol 649 – $170 (prices vary depending on model type. This is an iconic frame, made most famous by Steve McQueen) Oakley Polarized Frogskins – $140

Jalen Rose temporarily pulled off air by ESPN because of DUI Posted: 01 Apr 2011 12:19 PM PDT Jalen Rose, who only weeks ago was the talk of the town because of the Fab Five documentary, appears to be in hot water at ESPN. Two days before the documentary aired, Rose was arrested in Michigan on suspicion of DUI. Rose later admitted to fault in the case and was working with prosecutors on sentencing. However, during the whole ordeal, almost three entire weeks, he never informed his employer of the arrest. Oops. Quite a misstep there Mr. Rose, and one that may find you unemployed in the not so distant future. “Jalen has accepted full responsibility for his actions. Both parties are taking this very seriously, and as a result, we’ve agreed that he will not be on our air while he addresses this situation,” said ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz in an email to Game On! On Thursday, ESPN’s new ombudsman at the Poynter Institute published a report blaming Rose for not informing his bosses in Bristol, Conn. about his run-in with the cops for weeks. To make matters worse for ESPN, they appeared to have found out about the Rose arrest by other media sources, specifically a local TV station in Detroit. And if there’s one thing ESPN absolutely abhors, it’s getting out-scooped by somebody else. Especially, you know, when it’s embarrassingly one of their own talents. On a side note, I’m pretty sure Grant Hill and the rest of the Uncle Toms from the Duke brigade had a nice little chuckle over this one. VIDEO: This is what Rebecca Black’s “Friday” would look like filmed in hell Posted: 01 Apr 2011 12:07 PM PDT If you listened to the Rebecca Black classic “Friday”, you’d probably have thought you were already in Hell. But you’d be wrong, as evidenced by this version of “Friday” re-produced to look like Rebecca Black is the Antichrist. It’s really well done. This is probably what the video looked like anyway if you had those glasses “Rowdy” Roddy Piper had in “They Live”. I mean it was fun mocking Rebecca Black and “Friday” and all, but did we really need a “Good Morning America” and “Tonight Show” appearance followed by an entire day of Funny or Die clips dedicated to it for April Fool’s? All I’m saying is that this video might be closer to reality than it seems. Oh look at me, calling 13-year-old girls evil liars. It’s like last year’s court case all over again!
