VIDEO: Mortal Kombat: Legacy returns to form thanks to the god of thunder Posted: 18 May 2011 02:44 PM PDT And no, I’m not talking about Thor (which I saw this past weekend btw; surprisingly great flick). I’m talking about Raiden, who makes the Mortal Kombat web series all of a sudden worth checking out. As some might recall, I had pretty much given up all hope on Mortal Komnbat: Legacy, after part two of the snooze-fest that was Kitana and Mileena. And as you’ll see, this latest chapter opens up with a somewhat defensive statement from the director, which basically spelled trouble. Thankfully what follows is well worth the time and effort… Of all the installments we’ve seen thus far, this latest with Raiden feels the closest the original pilot, and is on par with the Johnny Cage one in terms of execution and delivery. It’s become abundantly clear where the director’s strength lies: firmly entrenched in reality, with the fantasy elements sprinkled about. It’s also somewhat apparent that the negative feedback; I certainly wasn’t the only one who found the previous two chapters to be disappointing as hell. Hopefully Sub Zero and Scorpion will be similar to what we saw in episode 0, and not a return to green screen background land. And on a related note… and truth be told, I was expecting this week’s installment to be such a bomb that I had something else lined up to show. But will pass it along anyway; it’s Scorpion rapping… For those who don’t get the joke, it’s a parody of this… |
The unsung heroes of medicine: Male nurses [INFOGRAPHIC] Posted: 18 May 2011 02:02 PM PDT Though male nurses make up a small minority of the nursing population, they still manage to be the butts of a majority of jokes when it comes to the medical profession. However, that shouldn’t be the case and our buddies over at Online Nursing Schools decided it was time to recognize our unsung heroes of medicine.

Jilted bride’s suicidal jump stopped in dramatic fashion Posted: 18 May 2011 01:30 PM PDT A bride was crestfallen when her would-be husband called off their wedding to marry another woman (wowwww). But as she went to kill herself, a man caught her in mid-air, leading to this amazing photo. Pretty proud of myself for naming this file "Jumpaway Bride" You can see more photos of the amazing rescue at the New York Post. According to a reports, the bride — known only as Li-Wan — leaped to what she thought would be her death after receiving the news that her wedding would not happen to partner Wang Lu. A local worker named Guo Zhongfan happened to catch Li-Wan right as she was jumping, holding her in place until other rescuers enabled him to pull her back to safety by her skirt. No other details are known about the rescue at this time other than, presumably, what a dick her would-be husband was. Seriously, suicide is obviously never the answer, but can you really blame the girl? You get so far through wedding planning and dress buying and all of the other processes involved with a marriage ceremony, only to tell your girl while she’s wearing her wedding dress that you’re not going to marry her? And not only that, but you’re going to marry someone else, presumably whom she hates? That’s just cruel. Legally, there may not be anything you can do to punish this Wang Lu dude, but if you happen to be in China and know him, feel free to throw a loaded bag of dog feces at him. Every time he walks by. I think even he’d have to go, “Yeah, probably deserved that.” Jilted bride in China jumps out window [NY Post] |
The ESPN Christmas party is going to be a little awkward this year Posted: 18 May 2011 01:28 PM PDT Several people have received advanced copies of the ESPN tell-all book, Those Guys Have All the Fun and needless to say, there’s some real juicy stuff in there. Two of the most controversial stories involve comments made by Michelle Beadle regarding the Erin Andrews peephole video and the Bill Simmons Twitter suspension. Michelle Beadle via Deadspin: I felt bad for her. She looked fabulous but it was such a violation. I mean, I’ve had moments in my apartment in New York when the blinds were up for one brief second and you think, “Ugh!” but that’s nothing compared to what happened to her. Nothing. I think things might have been handled differently, but she seems to be moving on. Sometimes these things turn out better for people. Beadle goes on to admit that she did indeed watch the video. Something that will inevitably not get her an invite for Andrews’ next birthday bash. — Who knew that Bill Simmons and Chris Berman had a developing feud. The latter had this to say about ESPN’s biggest online presence and the producer of the very successful “30 for 30″ series. Via JimmyTraina: I don’t know Bill Simmons. I wouldnt know him if he sat here right next to me. Easy there Chris, we already know you have quite the temper. |
